CLD Annual Facilitator Training

The Code of Conduct aims to ensure all volunteers understand the standard of conduct required. Volunteers are expected to uphold the Code of Conduct at all times when carrying out their duties and interactions. Volunteers should maintain the highest standards of behavior in the performance of their duties by:

1. Acting in a way that is in line with the purpose and values of CLD and that enhances CLD’s mission.
2. Communicating respectfully with CLD Staff, students, supportive adults, volunteers and anyone else with whom they may come into contact while conducting CLD volunteer service.
3. Performing their volunteer role to the best of their ability in a safe, efficient and competent way.
4. Following CLD’s policies and procedures as well as any instructions or directions reasonably given to them.
5. Acting honestly, responsibly and with integrity.
6. Raising concerns about possible wrongdoing witnessed by the volunteer in the course of the volunteer’s role.
7. Meeting time and task commitments and providing sufficient notice when they will not be available so that alternative arrangements can be made. Facilitators with 2 or more absences during a program’s start and end date will result in the volunteer not being asked to return the next season. The Chief Programs Officer will work with Program Coordinators to determine if extenuating circumstances warrant a return to facilitating. Students deserve excellent, uninterrupted delivery of program material
8. Keeping confidential matters confidential. Exercising caution and care with any documents, material or devices containing confidential information and at the end of their involvement with CLD.
9. Maintaining an appropriate standard of dress and personal hygiene. Prohibited attire:
Head covering unless part of religious attire
Clothing that exposes tattoos, backside, stomach, or undergarments
Shirts with names, symbols or logos (name brand logos are acceptable)
Sweatshirts or sweat suit attire
Mini-skirts or shorts

10. Seeking authorization before communicating externally on behalf of CLD.
11. Directing any and all media relation and inquiries to the Manager of Marketing & Communication.
12. Directing any questions regarding CLD’s policies, procedures, support or supervision to the volunteer’s supervisor.
13. Reporting any health and safety concerns.

Volunteers Should Not

1. Should not bring CLD into ill repute including through engaging with media, through the use of email and/or social media.
2. Should not seek or accept gifts, rewards, benefits or hospitality from CLD participants in the course of their role.
3. Should not engage in any activity that may cause physical or mental harm or distress to another person (such as verbal abuse, physical abuse, assault, bullying, or discrimination or harassment on the grounds of race, gender, civil status, family status, sexual orientation, religion, age, or disability).
4. Should not take photos of participants. All photos are taken with CLD camera equipment and managed by the Manager of Marketing in the Development Department.
5. Should not post photos on social media of CLD volunteer service without approval from CLD Manager of Marketing & Communication.
6. Should not be affected by alcohol, drugs, or medication which will affect their abilities to carry out their duties and responsibilities while volunteering.
7. Should not provide a false or misleading statement, declaration, document, record or claim in respect of CLD, its volunteers, or employees.
8. Should not engage in any activity that may damage property.
9. Should not take unauthorized possession of property that does not belong to them.
10. Should not engage in illegal activity while carrying out their role.
11. Should not improperly disclose, during or after their involvement with CLD ends, confidential information gained in the course of their role with CLD.
12. Should not inappropriately utilize CLD technology including but not limited to laptops and iPads, whether on-site or at a satellite location.
