Dr. George H. Rawls, M.D., for which the Rawls Scholars Medicine Initiative is named, was a renowned and distinguished physician. He labored tirelessly to raise awareness of the need for a greater representation of minorities in the field of medicine and he worked to facilitate admission and graduation of minority candidates to IU School of Medicine.
CLD and Eskenazi Health are proud partners of the Rawls Scholars Medicine Initiative.
This unique experience provides participants with the opportunity to closely interact with medical professionals and medical students to gain firsthand knowledge of attaining their career goals in medicine. Participants tour Eskenazi Health and the Coroner’s Office, shadow the trauma services staff and get an insider’s look at the Indiana University School of Medicine. Indianapolis Youth Development students must have completed the Self-Discovery/Career Exploration Project before registering for this program.
