Free event to connect students in grades 4-12 with STEM organizations, opportunities
INDIANAPOLIS – Saturday, February 8, 2020 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Center for Leadership Development (CLD) will host a STEM workshop for African American students in grades 4 through 12. Featuring representatives from the Purdue University Minority Engineering Program, Rose-Hulman School of Engineering and Girls STEM Institute, the free event will connect students and their parents with educational and career opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math.
According to the Pew Research Center, African Americans represent only 9% of the STEM workforce. Since 1977, CLD has provided enriching programs to supplement and reinforce tens of thousands of African American and minority youths’ learning and developmental experiences.
“By strategically connecting with schools, communities, businesses and industries, higher education, funders and youth and their families, CLD inspires a higher level of academic and career achievement in African American youth,” said CLD President Dennis Bland. “We’re also committed to offering programs and educational services for free or nominal cost, which requires substantial financial support from individuals, businesses, CLD alumni and charitable organizations.”
