Center for Leadership Development begins significant expansion
Lilly Endowment grant powers growth and creates opportunity for new hires, satellite locations
INDIANAPOLIS – The Center for Leadership Development (CLD) is expanding its team and extending its reach into Central Indiana communities. Supported by contributions from Lilly Endowment and several community partners, CLD is increasing its transformative impact on African American youth in Indianapolis.
With 11 new hires and six promotions, CLD has expanded its staff to 50 employees – the largest staff count in the organization’s more than 40-year history. Notable new hires include Mark Carter II, who comes with experience in government and politics and fills the role of alumni relations coordinator, and Enos Lewis, who has experience in community engagement and now serves as recruitment and outreach coordinator. In addition, Dr. Terry Whitt Bailey has become manager of programs. A CLD Alumna (CLD ’81), she brings three decades of experience in nonprofit management.
“By increasing our staff, we are expanding our capability to do more for the community,” said CLD President Dennis Bland (CLD ’82). “The youth we serve will receive the direct benefits of our growth and will have even more support as we walk with them on their path to success.”
With donations from partners such as Strada Education Network and the Indianapolis Colts, CLD is able to increase leadership programming for the students it serves. Part of this expanded programming includes incorporating satellite locations across Central Indiana. These satellite locations will increase the number of students served and amplify the organization’s message.
CLD is actively assembling a team to develop satellite and in-school partnerships in target hot spot areas to reach additional students outside of CLD’s main campus. These sites will host some of CLD’s most foundational programming including localized versions of CLD programs. The first satellite locations are expected to be confirmed on the east side of Indianapolis, with a full list of final locations in the near future.
