Center for Leadership Development requests nominations for 40th annual Minority Achievers Awards and Scholarship Gala

Milestone event to recognize outstanding contributions by Indianapolis minorities

 

INDIANAPOLIS – On March 19, the Center for Leadership Development (CLD) will host its 40th annual Minority Achievers Awards and Scholarship Gala. During the event, CLD and more than 1,300 attendees will celebrate the accomplishments of outstanding individuals throughout Central Indiana who have distinguished themselves professionally and through their contributions to the community.

The event will also focus on higher education institutions, community partners and the 2020 class of CLD Scholars. Since 2004, CLD has partnered with various colleges and universities that see the value of CLD’s unique and effective programming. More than $23 million in scholarships have been awarded to CLD students since 2003, including $5.2 million supporting more than 60 students during last year’s Achievers Gala.

The nomination period ends Jan. 24, and CLD welcomes nomination of minority professionals in the following categories:

  • Achievement in Arts & Entertainment: Drama/performing arts, visual arts, music, film, dance, literary arts, theater production/management, culinary arts, photography, athletics
  • Achievement in Business & Industry: All business categories except those specifically mentioned in other award categories
  • Achievement in Communications/PR/Advertising: Public relations, marketing, advertising, radio, television, print
  • Achievement in Education, K-12: Public or private education (teachers, principals, administrators)
  • Achievement in Education, Postsecondary: Public or private higher education (faculty, staff, administrators)
  • Achievement in Entrepreneurship: Founder or owner of a successful company/business
  • Achievement in Financial Services: Financial institutions, brokerages, accounting, actuarial, insurance
  • Human Achievement: Recognition of individuals who have achieved personal triumphs in spite of unusual barriers or impairments and are not necessarily in highly visible positions
  • Achievement in Professions: Architecture, legal, medical/health care
  • Achievement in Non-Profit and/or Public & Community Service: Community activism, government, religion, volunteer service, servant-leader, non-profit (Please note that nominations in this category cannot be based on activities performed as part of normal job responsibilities.)
  • Achievement in Science & Technical Disciplines: Innovative practices (discoveries or patents), engineers, scientists, physicists, information technology and other technical fields
  • Up & Coming Achiever: Recognition of talented individuals who show the promise of achievement and are age 35 or younger

All nominees are also considered for CLD’s two Distinguished Achievement Awards: Accomplished Achievement and Madame C. J. Walker Outstanding Woman of the Year.
