Project MR. (Male Responsibility) Indianapolis Youth Development program equips, empowers and prepares adolescent African-American males for achievement and success by teaching them the appropriate principles, behaviors, attitudes and values that lead to personal development and career success. The “Misters” are taught how to be responsible, self-believing, achieving men in society by upstanding and caring African American male professionals who serve as the facilitators of this program.
All young men are encouraged to recite the following Project MR. creed weekly:
“Responsible Males… Love, respect and value themselves and others Inform and strengthen their minds and souls Value education, learning and literacy Nurture, build and respect their bodies Abstain from sexual intercourse until marriage Lead, protect and provide for their families Serve as role models for other males Prepare and plan for their futures Improve their communities Respect women…friends, parents, girlfriends and strangers Demonstrate character in their behavior, attitude, actions and reactions.”
During this experience, your MR. Will...
Learn to believe in, and love, themselves more
Work towards becoming more responsible at home, in school and in the community
Take a closer look at their dreams, develop those dreams and explore new possibilities
Identify barriers towards achieving their dreams and the skills needed to overcome
